Rector of the Silesian University of Technology 2002-2008, Academic Teacher of the Department of Chemistry at the Silesian University of Technology, Member of the Scientific Council of the Center of Polymer and Carbon Materials of the Polish Academy of Sciences 2007-2014.

He was an outstanding organic chemist, teacher of many generations of Polish chemists, author of many scientific publications, patents and academic textbooks. For his scientific and teaching activities, he was awarded the Golden Cross of Merit, the Knight’s and Officer’s Cross of the Order of Polonia Restituta and the Medal of the Commission of National Education. He was actively involved in the Polish Pesticides Standardization Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Organic Industry, the Department of Carbochemistry. He was a member of the Scientific Council of the Center of Polymer and Carbonaceous Materials of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

In 2008, he received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of Lviv Polytechnic University.

He was a man of exceptional personality, known for his kindness, ready to help.
