Project 2019/33/B/ST5/00743
Bioresorbable polymers and polymer mixtures with bactericidal properties for use in cosmetics and dermatology
Project manager – Dr. Michał Sobota
Implementation period – 30/01/2020 – 29/01/2023
The aim of the proposed research is development of biodegradable and biocompatible system with antimicrobial properties for cosmetic and dermatologic treatments to substitute previous formulations containing preservatives and/or antibiotics.
Knowledge will be developed on efficiency and synergy of antimicrobial properties revealed by three groups of bactericides: (i) natural polymers (polysaccharides: chitosan, carrageenans and polygalacturonic acide), (ii) synthetic biodegradable polycations (poly(amine ester)s, poly( amine amide)s and functional polycarbonates with pending amines), (iii) dispersed selected metal compounds or metal nanoparticles with known antibacterial and antifungal properties.
The polymeric systems will be obtained in form that allows their easy application by creating nanoemulsions or by forming micro-, nanoparticles or nanofibers which can be added as ingredients during formation of fibrous wound dressings or preparations with prolonged action. Moreover, the developed systems will be able to act as carriers of desired bioactive compounds.
