PROJECT 2020/39/B/NZ5/00745
“Polymerosomes specifically releasing cGAMP and doxorubicin in tumor hypoxia areas as a new anticancer therapeutic solution”
Project manager: dr hab. Katarzyna Jelonek
Project implementation period: 30.09.2021-29.09.2024
The aim of the project is to develop a polymer nanocarrier containing two anticancer drugs: a STING protein agonist – cGAMP, which activates the immune system to effectively eliminate cancer cells and doxorubicin. Both drugs will be specifically released in regions of low oxygen concentration (hypoxia areas) in the tumor. The project plans to obtain and characterize the properties of polymer carriers (polymerosomes) that disintegrate and specifically release drugs in hypoxia regions in the tumor. The specific release of drugs in a low oxygen environment will be studied on cancer and normal cell lines, and the efficacy of specific drug release from polymersomes in the tumor will be studied on a mouse model of skin cancer – melanoma and mouse breast cancer. The efficacy of inhibiting tumor growth using the studied polymersomes will also be assessed.
