On June 12, 2023, CMPW PAN employees organized a show of experiments thematically related to the program of the 8th grade of primary school. The shows were attended by students of the 8th grade of Primary School No. 7 named after Adam Mickiewicz in Ruda Śląska. At the beginning, Dr. Hab. Eng. Wojciech Wałach, prof. CMPW PAN presented the Center and the scientific activities conducted at the institute in the form of a lecture. In the further demonstration part led by W. Wałach, A. Utrata-Wesołek, Natalia Oleszko-Torbus, M. Bochenek and D. Lipowska-Kur the following topics were discussed:

1. Pressure and properties of gases – the state of matter strongly dependent on pressure (demonstrations with commentary)
2. Metals and non-metals – characteristics, state of matter and basic reactions of elements and their oxides (demonstrations with commentary)
3. Phase changes – transitions between the solid, liquid and gaseous states and the use of phase changes for the separation of substances (demonstrations with commentary)
4. Interesting experiments (demonstrations with commentary)
   – chemical gardens
   – magic baguettes
   – chemical lights
   – physical heater
   Some of the experiments were carried out by students assisted by the Centre’s employees. The visit to CMPW PAN allowed the students to see research laboratories, become familiar with scientific research work and see or perform experiments related to the phenomena discussed in chemistry and physics lessons.
