Dr. Henryk Janeczek, a highly regarded specialist in polymer chemistry, ionic polymerization and, in particular, research into the thermal properties of macromolecular compounds and advanced materials, has passed away.
He was born in 1950 in Lindów, in the Kłobuck County, into a family of intellectuals . From 1968 to 1973, he studied at the Faculty of Chemical Technology and Engineering at the Silesian University of Technology in Gliwice.
After graduating in 1973, he began working at the Institute of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Zabrze, then known as the Institute of Polymers and now the Centre of Polymer and Carbon Materials (CMPW), with which he spent his entire professional career.
He completed his doctoral research under the supervision of Prof. Eligia Turska at the Polymer Physicochemistry Laboratory, where he conducted research on the thermal and structural properties of polymer materials. He received his Ph.D. in chemical sciences in 1981 from the Silesian University of Technology.
Dr. Henryk Janeczek’s scientific achievements includes over 200 publications in prestigious journals with high impact factors. His publication are widely cited in the global scientific literature. He also actively engaged in international collaboration through the international laboratories and research networks operating within the CMPW PAN. In 2016, he was awarded the Silver Cross of Merit for his scientific achievements. Dr. Henryk Janeczek devoted himself passionately to scientific work. He was always eager to share his knowledge, and his thoughtful and valuable advice on scientific matters provided invaluable support to many people.
Dr. Henryk Janeczek’s scientific achievements have left a lasting mark on polymer science and polymeric materials, and his research significantly contributed to strengthening the position of our Institute. His passing is a tremendous loss for our institute and for Polish science.
We will remember him as a man of great kindness, hardworking, always willing to help others and modest.
