Scientific seminar of the Silesian institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences
A meeting of four Silesian Institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences was held on 7 February 2025: Centre of Polymer and Carbon Materials of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Institute of Theoretical and Applied Informatics of the Polish Academy of Sciences, Institute of Chemical Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences and Institute of Fundamentals of Environmental Engineering of the Polish Academy of Sciences, which took place at the Centre of Polymer and Carbon Materials of the Polish Academy of Sciences in Zabrze. The seminar was attended by the directors and scientific staff of the institutes. Prof. Józef Dubiński, Vice President of the Katowice Branch of the Polish Academy of Sciences, also attended.
The meeting was opened by Prof. Barbara Trzebicka, Director of CMPW PAN. After a short introductory speech by Prof. Józef Dubiński, the key research areas in the individual institutes were presented in turn by Krzysztof Grochla, D.Sc., Director of IITiS PAN, Urszula Szeluga, Ph.D., Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs of CMPW PAN, Anna Gancarczyk, Ph.D., Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs of IICh PAN and Prof. Rajmund Michalski, Ph.D., Deputy Director for Scientific Affairs of IPIŚ PAN.
At the end of this part of the seminar, the staff of IICh PAS and IITiS PAS presented the results of the effective integration of research methods specific to their disciplines, using the example of the application of a hyperspectral camera (IITiS PAS) to the study of the properties of materials obtained in IICh PAS and the use of machine learning (IITiS PAS) to predict the transport coefficients of solid foams (IICh PAS).
The final point of the meeting was a poster session, during which the results of research and projects were presented, covering a broad spectrum of topics: from modern environmental technologies, through advanced materials and chemical processes, to innovations in computer science and artificial intelligence.
Each of the Silesian institutes of the Polish Academy of Sciences represented a different scientific discipline. The meeting therefore provided an excellent forum for exchanging knowledge and experience between scientists from different disciplines, establishing scientific cooperation and discussing prospective directions for joint research.
